How to back up your website on your own

How to back up your whole website:

After you are done any changes to your website, or anything new has been submitted to your shopping cart, comments, updates, you should always backup your website.  We keep backups of your website, but it’s your responsibility to keep the latest backup of your website, just in case something happens to ours.

Always make sure you create a backup of your website, then you download your website to your computer for storage on your hard drive, or USB, or even on to CD and then delete your last backup (to save space).   We suggest you do this monthly if your site has a lot of changes, but if you don't want to do this, maybe do it every 6 months or at least yearly.

To backup the whole website, do this:

1: Log in to control panel

(if you don't know your cpanel information please feel free to contact us at support)

2: Find backup wizard and click on backup wizard

3: Click backup

4: Click FULL BACKUP

5: Click Generate backup

Now you must save it to your hard drive, USB or store it so can save it to CD/DVD.  You can also have it warn you when the back up is done.

6: Give it about 5 mins to backup and if you were just backing the website up, at the last screen you were on it should say GO BACK, click that to go back to the backup area and then in the “Backups available for download” area, there should be a new link with the words "backup-something" in there.

When it's done, click the link to save your backup on your own hard drive.

If you keep backing up the website and you do not delete the old backups, it’s going to fill up your website diskspace really fast.  So what you do is delete your last backup files.  This ensures you have maximum space and the latest backup.

To delete old backups or any backup do this:

1: Log in to control panel

2: Click File Manager.

3: Click home from the left folder listing. E.g. (/home/username).

If it’s greyed out, you are already home.

4: Scroll down and look for any file called backup (it's usually near the bottom)  Select your backup file. For example backup-4.18.2019_16-03-24_username.tar.gz.

It should highlight it when you click on it.

5:  At the top of the screen find the DELETE but and click Delete

Click  Skip the trash and permanently delete the files

The backup is now deleted.
